Although I had worked briefly with Alex Henderson before, I still feel he took something of a chance in bringing me onboard to score his independent short film, THE RHINO AND THE REDBILL. Most of my prior film-composing experience was in the orchestral realm, and was frequently more light-hearted in nature. What Alex desired from the music for THE RHINO AND THE REDBILL was a fully electronic adventure score with a thriller edge. Although I would write a synthesizer-heavy score for GOOEY GOATS near the beginning of my year-long period working on Alex's film, I didn't have much of this sort of thing in my resume prior to scoring this.

Over the course of my time scoring THE RHINO AND THE REDBILL (which was mostly based off of storyboards while Alex actually animated everything), Alex and I gradually broadened the soundscape of the music by adding some acoustic elements, but the end-result is still largely unlike anything else I've written before, though without sacrificing my own voice. Alex was an incredible collaborator - detailed in his instruction, clear in his desire and intent, but always open-minded in letting me try new things and experiment. Like any good director, he pushed me to do my best and provided a film that gave me all the motivation I needed to do so.

I'm enormously proud to have been a part of bringing THE RHINO AND THE REDBILL to life and I'm equally proud of the music I wrote for it. I can only hope that it boasts the same feeling of adventure, excitement, and fun that Alex's film does.
